Joel Johnson

Former network engineer, technology journalist, and media executive, Joel Johnson has spent the last decade as an advisor to the leadership of both Fortune 50 companies and growth-stage startups.

He founded or expanded such media brands as WIRED.com, Gizmodo, Lifehacker, Jalopnik, Wirecutter, Popular Mechanics, and Roadtrippers. His reporting about Foxconn and Apple was a cover story for WIRED magazine.

He created the current “Zero, Zero, Zero” strategic framework for General Motors that charted its generational mission to transform mobility into its safest, simplest, and most sustainable future.

Past clients include IBM, Ford Motor Co., Audi, and Thor Industries. He has been regularly featured by BBC World Service and has spoken at SXSW, Cornell Tech, University of Oregon, and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

He serves on the advisory board of Fluence Training, the leading psychedelic therapy training platform.

Joel lives on the Hudson River just north of New York City with his wife, two bossy cats, and a complete set of Iain M. Banks hardcovers. He attempts to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, hunting, and off-roading.

Joel generally eschews social media.

Alex Roy

Former self-driving technology executive, automotive journalist and race driver, Alex Roy is best known for leading the first team in 23 years to break the Cannonball Run driving record, crossing the USA in 31 hours and 4 minutes. He has also broken the EV record 3 times, and still holds the Tesla Autopilot and 3-wheeled ICE records, the latter in a Morgan 3-Wheeler.

Alex is also co-founder of the Autonocast and The Drive, founder of the Human Driving Association, author of The Driver, producer of APEX: The Secret Race Across America, and Chairman Emeritus of The Moth storytelling series.

As Director of Special Operations at Argo.AI, Roy pioneered concepts like Universal Basic Mobility and Roy’s Razor—the litmus test for autonomous systems.

Roy has written for Bloomberg, Road & Track, and Jalopnik, has appeared on CNN, NBC, Fox News, Cheddar, and TF1, and has spoken at the FBI, SXSW, TedX, MIT, Stanford, Princeton, and Carnegie Mellon.
